Letter From Gordon phillips
On Sunday morning, about 10:30am a young lady beach
walker got cut off and stranded by the incoming
tide, Shanklin side of Horse Ledge.
As the tide pushed up, so the lady moved up, as far
as she could go.
Members of Shanklin Deep Sea Fishing Club were
working on their boats but see what was happening
and quickly phoned the Coastguard.
Within about six minutes the Sandown & Shanklin
Inshore Lifeboat (Sandown Rescue One) roared past us
on its way to the lady in trouble, who could get not
further.
The coxswain of the Lifeboat held his craft against
the cliff and carried out a text book rescue.
The lady was put ashore at our fishing club where
the lifeboat's medic attended her until the
coastguard arrived and took over.
It was an excellent example of our lifeboatmen going
about their business so expertly and efficiently.
"Well done lads", it's nice to know you're out
there when you're needed.
Thank you.

As the Inspector in the Force Control Room at
Wymondham during the night of
wednesday 1st September 2004, I would like to take
this opportunity to thank the
crew of the Hemsby Lifeboat and yourself for your
swift responce to our need for
assistance in attending a potentially serious
incident at the Berney Arms area.
In the middle of the night your willingness to
assist the police with getting to this
incident is a credit to yourselves and your service.
Having been a serving officer for 27 years in
Norfolk I have long admired the
assistance given by volunteer organisations in
improving the life and safety of the
Norfolk public and its visitors.
Although we are fortunate that this incident proved
to be not as serious as first
reported, to me it did highlight the great value of
your service. As it is clear had this
been a truly serious incident, your responce would
have saved valuable time in the
attendance of help. It is very reassuring to me that
you are there should the need
arise in the future.
In thanking you again may I pass on my best wishes
for you to have a long, successful and enjoyable
future for your service.
Yours sincerely
Jamie Ayers
Inspector
Force Control Room

Dear Sir,
I would like to express my thanks to the crew of
Steadfast Venturer who came so promptly to my rescue
on Thursday the Second of August off of Leap Beach.
There prompt and professional approach to the rescue
made light of what could have been a major motor
boat recovery, possibly wreck.
They carried out the recovry in an organised and
safe way putting all of my family at ease and
therefore reduced the distress that my grandchildren
experienced when my engine blew up.
During the tow they were at pains to ensure
everything was on board our vessel.
Only to often modern youth is ridiculed for being
lazy, trouble causing and showing no respect to
there elders. Your crew on Thursday were none of
this and should be commended.
Please pass my thanks again to Matt, Andy & Natalie
Yours Thankfully
M. Field"

Just a short note to say how
remarkable your lads were during the flooding in my
area of Longford, Gloucester.
We were completely cut off and were getting no
response from anyone, we are a family of seven with
a 3 month old baby.
Our only contact came from your lads which i must
compliment them on being the most professionally
organized rescue team out of all the emergency
services in the area,
Credit were credit is due, I am very grateful for
the support I received and if I can help your
organization in any way please let me know.
Many thanks

This Christmas |

At
7.30am on Thursday morning the crew of the Hemsby Lifeboat
were called out to the lifeboat station to find that nine of
their stations windows were vandalised in the early hours of
the previous evening. The crew who are on call for 365 days
of the year for emergency call outs were noticeably
disheartened by this senseless act of vandalism.
Scene of
crimes officers, CID and local officers attended the station
to conduct an investigation into the damage caused and also
to other properties in the area in a night of senseless
fuelled vandalism.
It is reported that Yarmouth police do
have a couple in custody helping them with their enquiries,
but it leaves the Lifeboat station with a plea for help from
local businesses to help fund the installation of permanent
shutters for the station.
Gerard Roadley-Battin Coxswain of
the Hemsby Lifeboat says “It is unfortunate that we will
have to resort to this measure of security, but it is a sign
of the times and the society that we live in today, and if
there are any carpenters or suppliers that would offer there
services to a good cause to help us secure the station and
prevent this from happening again” If you can help
Hemsby lifeboat then please contact us

The Independent Lifeboats
UK website was set up by myself to increase both public
awareness and funding of Independent Lifeboat services
throughout the UK and the world.
None of the Independent Lifeboat Services featured in this
site are managed or funded by the Royal National Lifeboat
Institute - RNLI.
None of the Independent Lifeboat services in this site are
funded by government,. They are run and rely on donations
from the general public, businesses and their own
fundraising events.
I am now an ex Independent Lifeboat crew member, but I have
made it my task / role in life to help promote Independent
Lifeboats in the UK when and where I can by any mean
possible to me. It's my payment to the crews and volunteers
that do the role for no payment and in aid of the public
without a thought of their own safety. All hero's all worth
their weight in gold. |
